When I was in college I worked at Anthropologie, and when I would come home my clothes would smell faintly of the delicious candles we’d burn there. The autumn and winter scents were always my favorite, and I eagerly used my employee discount to make my college apartment smell the same. And up until I realized my migraines were from artificial candles scents, I would eagerly scoop up all the yummy smelling candles from there to fill our home every season!
When we started using oils and ditched the scented candles, wall plugs and wax melts my headaches improved significantly! Turns out those scented things were releasing harmful chemicals into the air … ew. Also turns out we don’t need them to make our home smell cozy and delicious!! All we need are some oils and a few diffusers (and some flameless or beeswax candles for the glowy ambiance)!
These Anthropologie autumn candle dupes are a staple in our household for the fall and winter months!
Why diffusers and essential oils?
Our diffusers are running 24/7 in our homes, supporting our immune systems, respiratory systems, emotions, cleansing the air and making things smell happy and inviting all at the same time. This is hands down one of the easiest health habits you can start!
Did you know that essential oils can literally enhance your environment? Current research in development psychology and education shows us the magic of an “enhanced environment.” For children this looks like toys, sports, music, and learning opportunities in addition to their physical environment. These things result in improved cognitive and language development, social and emotional skills, creativity, imagination, and problem-solving skills.
BUT what about us adults?? Adults can also improve these things with an enhanced environment. Dr. Cynthia Woo recently did a study at UC Irvine that diffusing essential oils before bed showed improvement in cognitive test scores, positive changes in brain anatomy, improved cognitive resilience and youthfulness.
The short version? Diffusing oils before bed can improve your brain function! Try one of these Anthropologie-inspired blends to bring all the cozy, warm goodness of autumn into your space — no matter where you are!
How do I choose a diffuser?
There are so many great diffusers on the market these days! This makes them easy to find at places like Target, TJ Maxx, even Walmart! While we have diffusers from those places for sure, they don’t last as long as the nicer ones we have from Young Living. Here are the ones we have and love in our home:
- Wood and glass diffuser (aria) from Young Living: This diffuser is going on ten years of use and still going strong! It was 100% worth the investment and looks gorgeous everywhere we put it.
- White boho diffuser (desert mist) from Young Living: We have a few of these throughout the house, and they fit into any decor well. I love that I can remove the top for travel or to place inside a cute basket or fall decor item!
- Faux wood grain and glass diffuser: We have this affordable option in our kitchen and love it, although it is definitely lower quality than our actual wood one from Young Living.
- Cute wicker diffuser: This small diffuser is great in a bathroom. You can also take the top off and place it inside a basket or other seasonal decor item!
How do I make Anthropologie autumn candle dupes?
I like to pre-make diffuser blends by placing 50-100 drops total into a small dropper bottle. I love adding a cute label for fun. Swirl to mix, then add 8-12 drops to your diffuser to use (amount depends on which diffuser you’re using)! For these recipes, just multiply each oil by 10! It looks cute and keeps you from having multiple open bottles throughout the house (although we still somehow do with oils we use a lot)!
